Sensory reminders

A bit like music and songs, I believe most people link flowers to personal stories or important people in their lives.  A delightful sensory reminder.

Gardenias remind me of my grandmother and Hydrangeas remind me of endless summer holidays and lined coastal driveways to beach houses.  Today one of my favourite people told me at breakfast, in front of the pictured blue flowers, her story of Hydrangeas and what they mean - which I love.

Her late father spent many moons trying to acidify the soil where he lived in order to produce the perfect blue hydrangea.  He tried nails in the soil, the works, but without any luck.  The year he passed the hydrangeas finally listened and consisted of bursting blue.

How sweet is that.....they listened.
