Pirate notebook

Is the top image what looked back at you this morning in the bathroom mirror? do you have dreams of wearing a Japanese paper eye patch whilst riding the rolling seas of 2010 into 2011.  I hope so.

The most important purchase here is your paper scoring tool.  You'll also need a cutting mat, sharp paper knife, cardboard, pencil, metal ruler, pva glue, glue brush, and the fun stuff - beautiful paper.  You'll be needing paper to cover your notebook and also paper you'll be accordion folding for pages.  I found my lovely Japanese paper in Zetta Florence on Brunswick Street, Melbourne.  However be inspired to use anything from retro magazine articles to old maps of the seven seas.  Just make sure the paper isn't that precious it falls apart when glued. Simple steps : 1. decide the size of your square 2. cut cardboard (front & back cover) 3. cut your feature paper into squares that are 10mm greater than your cardboard and trim evenly corners so they are blunt looking when glued 4. cover your feature paper, both pieces, with pva reaching every corner 5. place your card in the centre of each gluey piece and use your scoring tool to smooth out any gluey bumps - be careful not to tear any paper 6. glue opposite ends of paper so they are flat and facing then do the same wit the final 2 corners, smoothing the paper down with your scoring tool 7. allow your covers to dry and in the meantime take the paper you intend to accordion fold and either cut it to shape so it sits snugly in your notebook or rip it carefully along the top and bottom like I have done 8. glue each flat accordion side end to your inside covers and there you have it.

Depending on your theme you can add whatever you like to fasten these special memoirs and dreams whilst enjoying a recovery burger, fries, coke and packet of clinkers on the couch Jan 1.  xx
